Joel Arantes Correia (b. 1978 Paris, Portuguese nationality) holds a Master’s degree in Material-based Art from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (2022). In recent years had a solo exhibition at Galleri Ask (Horten) 2023, participated in group exhibitions at Skulpturtriennalen 2021 at Norsk Billedhoggerforening. ​After working in Portugal with stone sculpture for several years, Joel Correia’s arrival in Norway in 2013 started him down a path of discovery and adaptation that led to a radical change. He put stonework on hold for a while and discovered new materials, mainly steel and concrete. Lately, he has focused on memory as a research subject in connection with derelict architectonic structures, that is, buildings and objects affected by abandonment and decay.
