The International Vilnius Light Festival

The International Vilnius Light Festival, taking place January 22–24, 2027, invites creators and organizations to submit project proposals.

Set in Vilnius’ Historic Center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the festival showcases leading contemporary light artists and provides a platform for emerging talent. The festival marks Vilnius’ birthday.

Vilnius’ Old Town is a medieval city shaped organically over five centuries, distinguished by its stylistic diversity of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical architecture. During the festival, streets, courtyards, squares, and public spaces transform into an open-air gallery, while centuries-old buildings are reimagined in futuristic forms. Light reveals the unique character of multicultural Vilnius, where multiple traditions and languages create a vibrant, evolving city identity.

In the first half of 2027, as Lithuania presides over the Council of the European Union for the second time, we invite artists to reflect on this milestone – to express a distinctive artistic voice and foster intercultural dialogue.

We assess:

  • Artistic idea and originality
  • Technical implementation, including clear information on assembly, disassembly, and display of the project
  • Resistance of materials and equipment to harsh weather conditions such as snow, rain, and wind
  • Detail and validity of the project estimate
  • Synergy between the project and the urban environment
  • Musical soundtrack

Light must be the primary and integral means of expression in the project.

The open call is valid until June 1, 2026.

Tagli artist residency

The 2026 edition of the Tagli artist residency will be held on the island of Stromboli from July 18th to August 3rd, and will select projects from the visual and performing arts, video art, and photography, both individual and collective.

WHERE
The sixth edition of the artist residency organized by Tagli will take place in Stromboli.

WHEN
From July 18th to August 3rd 2026.

WHO
Between four and eight projects in the visual and performing arts (music, poetry, dance), video art, and photography, both individual and collective, will be selected.

APPLICATION

It's not necessary to arrive with a ready-made project; instead, it's essential to use the time and space available to focus on research and practice. To apply, tell us about your work, attaching a portfolio, videos, and audio files.

Tagli offers selected artists room and board in a private home. The spaces include rooms, restrooms, common areas, and an outdoor garden. Equipment is shared as needed, including work tables, sound systems, and projection equipment.

Tagli promotes dialogue between artists and the community, creating valuable experiences and providing a shared and stimulating environment for exploration and creative experimentation.

At the end of the residency, an open house will be held to present the works to the island. So far, Tagli has hosted 40 projects selected from approximately 1,000 submissions over the course of five years. Each edition is structured with workshops, meetings, and discussions involving the island.

THE HOUSE

The residence's spaces are all shared. The structure resembles that of a private home, so the rooms and bathrooms are shared. Work areas are primarily outdoors. There are no pre-assigned workspaces: everyone will find their own environment during the first few days of residence.

Stromboli is a welcoming island, but it requires careful treatment. The water is from a tank and not potable, so it should be used sparingly. Garbage must be separated and taken to landfill. The natural environment and gardens require careful treatment. The dry climate makes the surrounding environment vulnerable.

MATERIALS

Materials must be procured before arriving. Finding the necessary supplies for specific procedures on the island is more difficult, and shipments are subject to the challenges of sea transport.
Tagli has a backline with a stereo system and subwoofer, keyboard, guitar and microphones, projectors, work tables, printer and scanner.

Get off to a better start with Opstart

Opstart is the Nordic Culture Fund’s investment in the initial phases of artistic and cultural projects. The programme supports the joint development of new and promising project ideas, with a view to strengthening the Nordic ambitions of the projects. You can apply for up to DKK 25,000, and there is no requirement for co-financing.

Opstart has a rolling application deadline, and you will typically receive a reply within 30 working days.

What is Opstart?

Opstart is designed to give collaborative projects in the arts and culture a good start.

The programme supports projects with concrete ambitions to develop cooperation across the Nordic countries. At least two partners based in two different Nordic countries must have confirmed their participation in the project before applying, and their roles must be described in the application. If there are partners from only two different Nordic countries participating in the Opstart project, one of the concrete objectives of the project should be to widen Nordic participation. The application must clearly indicate how and which other stakeholders and from which countries the project intends to involve in the long term.

The Nordic countries are Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Åland. Participation from outside the Nordic countries is also welcome.

You can apply as an individual, group, institution, association or company, as well as a public or private organisation. Opstart welcomes applications for projects with a global vision that can help create new relevance for Nordic art and cultural cooperation. Therefore, you do not need to be a resident of the Nordic Region or have Nordic nationality to apply.

Notice that Opstart does not support:

  • projects that do not have a clear link to the arts and culture (for instance sporting events, business development, technological innovation, and projects within journalism and social sciences),
  • school trips or research trips of individuals,
  • participation of individuals and groups in events and activities, and
  • fully developed projects that can apply for Project Funding. If you apply for Project Funding, do not apply Opstart at the same time but include your development phase in the Project Funding application.
