VAC Art Residency
Our Residency program provides network support, project assistance, and public exposure. Our multifunctional space in Hanoi serves as a new concept for artist collaborative studios – it’s a hub for means of artistic production, communal activities, and public programs. We collaborate with international partners to provide residents with access to various resources. These partnerships enhance the residency experience, expand networking opportunities, and allow for global exposure. We aim to encourage residents’ maximum potential growth and support their short-term projects as well as long-term goals through tailored assistance.
Our Program
VAC’s Residency program this year will be designed and customized to offer curatorial critique & network support, assist project development, and facilitate exchanges across communities beyond borders. Our Residency space in Hanoi is built upon the idea of repurposing a private residence into a multifunctional studio. It’s reinvented as a collaborative hub for project development & production, communal activities, and public programs. We work with partners worldwide to give resident artists access to various resources. These partnerships enhance residency experience, expand networking opportunities, and allow global exposure. We are dedicated to supporting resident artists in reaching beyond their limits and achieving at least one short-term project aligned with their career goals.
The core value of VAC Residency is to create a “haven” for artists and cultural practitioners in Vietnam. Here, they can freely explore realms outside the “box”. We believe in learning through practice and engagement in an unorthodox setting. Be it different forms of mobility and flexibility such as field trips, travel workshops, or simply enjoying the temporary freedom to focus on artistic projects without concerns. We also seek to bridge gaps and solve problems for each resident artist based on their needs and aspirations.
Admission & Open Call
VAC Residency in Hanoi welcomes applications throughout the year, divided into four terms annually, accommodating two artists per term, each spanning three months. The residency includes two months of experimentation & project development and a one-month Open Studio located in Tay Ho.
VAC advisory board will select the artists based on their commitment to a professional artist career and the current stage of their practices. All practicing individual artists based in Vietnam are welcome to apply. We will contact candidates to schedule studio visits before making our final decisions. Selected artists can indicate their preferred term to enter the program. We will consider the synergy and availability among artists chosen for each term and adjust accordingly. This flexible structure ensures artists develop projects at their own pace and encourages collaboration within the community.
