Scent + Art Festival 2027

The festival focuses on promoting experimentation that integrates scent into contemporary art, music, dance, performance, literature, science, and technology. It explores how smell interacts with other senses—sound, image, text, and movement—through cross-modal artistic practices.

A key emphasis of the festival 2027 is accessibility and inclusion, with a strong focus on creating multisensory experiences that are meaningful to visually impaired audiences. By prioritizing scent, sound, touch, and spatial perception over visual dominance, the festival opens alternative ways of experiencing, understanding, and engaging with art. We encourage stories that are about, or relevant to, visually impaired people.

The program investigates how sensory combinations—both harmonious and contrasting—can expand perception and deepen engagement. It also explores collective memory and identity as multisensory experiences shaped through scent and storytelling.

The festival invites artists, musicians, dancers, performance artists, writers, scientists, technologists, curators, galleries, and institutions to participate in the festival in person, remotely in Riga, or by organizing satellite events in your country.

The festival is not covering artistic fees or travel/accommodation costs, but it provides space and/or time for your contribution, and support letters for your local funding agencies. The Scent + Art Festival 2026 brought together more than 100 participants from 32 countries.

Key dates:

1. Application deadline: July 15, 2026

2. Online seminar/lecture on how to create meaningful experiences for visually impaired persons: August 16, 2026, 18:00 CET

Résidence croisée Clermont-Trondheim 2027

Artistes en résidence (Clermont-Ferrand, France) and Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder (Trondheim, Norway) are offering a six-week research residency at Artistes en résidence (A·R) in Clermont-Ferrand, France.

The residency collaboration between LKV and A·R fosters transnational exchange, artist participation, and in-depth, research-based practices. As part of this residency exchange, LKV receives an artist from Clermont-Ferrand, and A·R receives an artist from Trondheim.

Artistes en résidence

Created in 2011, A·R is a non-profit organization which supports contemporary creation by organizing residencies for artists and researchers in contemporary art. They support the international mobility of artists and the circulation of ideas and know-how, through the development of a vast network of local, national and international partners.

Artists are at the heart of the A·R project. Their team provides them with equipped workspaces and accommodation, as well as human, technical and financial support, and offers personalized mentorship. Fostering meetings and exchanges, A·R’s team puts artists in residency in touch with art professionals, researchers, associations, artisans or anyone who can help to develop their artistic research. A·R considers the international dimension and what it allows in terms of travel, personal development and openness to other practices and cultures, the notion of hospitality being primordial to the project.

A·R understands residencies as a period entirely dedicated to research and experimentation, with no obligation to finalize production. This orientation intends to provide artists with the necessary time for qualitative and in-depth research, to promote a real immersion in the local territory and to allow all the trial and error, detours and critical questioning necessary for the development of their art practice. Artists have the opportunity to present their research during a public end-of-residency event, which is not mandatory, free in form and organised in close collaboration with A·R's team

Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder

Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder (LKV) is an artist-run organization founded in 1993 in Trondheim, Norway. Located in Lademoen, an area with a rich cultural life close to the city center, LKV provides permanent studio spaces for over 40 artists, as well as shared workshops for wood, metal, printmaking, analog photography, ceramics, and large-scale production, accessible to professional artists [here for more details].

LKV also operates BABEL, an artist-run exhibition space for contemporary art, and runs an international residency program, hosting approximately 25 artists annually from visual arts, crafts, performing arts, film, literature, curatorial practice, and art criticism.

Rooted in democratic values, LKV is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening artists’ working conditions, fostering knowledge sharing, and promoting artistic innovation. We aim to strengthen the role of art in society and make contemporary art more accessible to a wider audience.

Period of residency

The period of residency of the artist from Trondheim in Clermont-Ferrand is scheduled from 13th of May to 26th of June 2027.

The artist selected for the Clermont-Ferrand residency will benefit from :

  • Accommodation in a fully equipped three bedroom apartment - with a bathroom and kitchen as well as a garden – shared with by up to 3 residents. [images here]
  • Access to a 160 square meters studio space, shared by up to 3 residents. This studio is located on Artistes en résidence's premises in the multidisciplinary complex La Diode, shared, amongst others, with Les Ateliers, an association that manages 17 studios for local artists on site. Selected artists have access to technical equipment shared between the two associations (equipped wood and metal workshop, portable power tools, two ceramic kilns, MIG welding station, audio-visual equipment, sewing machine, computer room with desktop and an A3 printer/scanner, 3D printer...). [images here]
  • Tailored mentorship, provision of contacts of various art professionals, researchers, craftsmen and women or any other person who can contribute to the development of their practice.
  • The possibility to organize or take part in a public event during which they can present their work or research. This public presentation is not mandatory.
  • A support letter for grant applications in Norway in order to finance the residency.

Please note that the selected artist will not receive direct financial support for their research project, including coverage of travel expenses or a residency and/or production stipend. The artist may therefore choose to proceed with, postpone, or cancel the residency depending on their individual financial situation and ability to secure external funding. A·R and LKV will support the artist throughout the grant application process.

Hosting conditions :

  • A·R strives to provide pleasant and suitable hosting and working conditions for everyone. In this regard, A·R is committed to fighting against sexual and gender-based violence and harassment, as well as any form of discrimination. Therefore, any behavior that constitutes or resembles violence - whether on A·R’s premises or outside - will not be tolerated and may result in sanctions ranging from a warning to an exclusion from the residency program. If needed, alternative accommodation solutions or adjustments to residency schedules may be considered.
  • Hosting of artists’ partners and families is possible under certain conditions. Those concerned may contact the team to discuss the specific arrangements.
  • The apartment, located on the third floor of a building without an elevator, is not accessible to people with reduced mobility. Suitable solutions can be found on a case-by-case basis; those concerned may contact A·R to discuss possible arrangements.

Elements to provide for the application :

  • Completed application form available at the bottom of this page.
  • A PDF compiling artist statement, CV and a selection of relevant works (max 30 pages and 5MB).
  • A note of intent of two A4 pages maximum.

Note : Artists are not expected to outline a specific project for the residency, but to specify their need and / or interest in the cross residency program or for an artistic residency in general. It is specified that this cross residency is a research program with no obligation to finalize production. In their note of intent, artists can highlight current research, their expectations about how the program will expand their existing body of work and/or enhance their professional development, their need for a studio or paid working time, their link to or interest in the territory, or any other reason that explains their desire to apply.

The deadline for applications is 28th of June, 23h59 Norwegian time.

The selection committee is composed by members of A·R.

As the jury is international, the note of intent must be written in English. It is also recommended (but not mandatory) to submit the portfolio in English, in order to facilitate the understanding of the artist’s practice. English proficiency is not evaluated, and the use of automatic translation tools is allowed.

One artist will be selected. The selection criteria are the quality of the artistic work, the clarity of presentation of the practice, the relevance of the practice within the residency context, and the benefits the artist may gain from the residency.

UNM: Call for Works

The 2027 festival theme is Rewilding, centering around restoring natural, grassroots processes in art making. We want to de-emphasize the idea of structural systems around art-making and the artist, and instead reinforce a living ecosystem of artists. We want a scene where people support each other, are open to sharing their tools and findings, and celebrate with each other when they find something new and interesting. This, we believe, is what a healthy artistic community looks like, and this is what we want to foster at UNM.

Call for Works

This year, five works will be selected from each Nordic country (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland) and two from each Baltic country (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania). We encourage all creators working within the context of music to send in works; ensemble pieces, solo works, installations, audio-visual works, music-theatre, etc. Before submitting your application, it is important that you read the terms and conditions, found down below.

Terms & Conditions

1. Applicants must be born on or after 1 January 1996. Applicants must be Swedish citizens or residents of Sweden.

2. Applicants may participate in a total of five UNM festivals, regardless of which country they represent. If you have already been selected for UNM five times, you are no longer eligible to be selected again. If an applicant meets the eligibility criteria in two countries (e.g. is a Swedish citizen but lives in Denmark), they may only apply in one country; otherwise, both applications will be disqualified.

3. Applicants cannot be selected two years in a row. For example, you cannot be selected for the festival in Akureyri 2027 if you were selected for Copenhagen 2026.

4. All works must be submitted anonymously. Ensure that names, dedications, and names of musicians/performers (i.e. personal information) are removed from all scores, videos/media, etc. Do not forget copyright text and metadata. Different methods of “hiding” names in PDFs often do not work reliably. Since it is important that names do not appear by accident, we recommend editing the score, removing names, and saving it again as a PDF.

5. Applicants will submit personal information separately from the work itself. This information will only be used by UNM boards for administrative purposes. The information will be stored for up to two years and can be deleted at any time upon request by the applicant after the results have been announced.

6. Works are selected by a jury in each country. UNM Sweden is implementing a gender quota, meaning that the traditionally overrepresented group (cis men) may constitute a maximum of 50% of the selected works over time. At the festival in Copenhagen in 2026, 3 out of the 5 represented Swedish composers are cis-men. This means that a maximum of 2 works by cis-male composers may be selected for the Call for Works 2027. For more information on how each country applies the quota, please contact your national board.

7. Each applicant may submit a maximum of two applications – the Call for Works and the Call for Artist-in-Residence included. This means you may apply with up to two works (Call for Works), or one work (Call for Works) and one project (Call for Artist-in-Residence). If you are selected for both the residency and with a submitted work, you may choose whether to participate in the residency or with the selected work.

8. A total of five works will be selected in this Call for Works. In addition, a number of runner-up works will be selected. If the performance of a selected work is cancelled, a replacement work will be chosen from the runner-up list. Attendance throughout the entire festival week is expected from the composers selected to participate. The performance of a selected work may be cancelled if the selected composer is unable to attend the festival.

9. UNM verifies applicants’ eligibility and reviews the submitted materials via the application form before forwarding them to the jury. If necessary, UNM may ask applicants to complete or amend their application. It is the applicant’s responsibility to submit any requested changes or documents before the application deadline. After the application period has closed, applications cannot be amended or supplemented, so please submit your application in good time.

10. UNM Iceland is committed to producing a performance or exhibition of all selected works. However, as the festival is volunteer-run, resources and production capacity are limited. If a selected work exceeds the festival’s technical, logistical, or financial capacities, the composer may be asked to adapt the work so it can be presented within the available resources. For the 2027 festival, we can accommodate works for a sinfonietta.

11. UNM Iceland will not cover performance fees for composer-performers at the 2027 festival, consistent with the policy that other selected composers are not paid to participate in the festival.

12. By submitting your application, you confirm that you have read and agree to the terms and that you will follow our Code of Conduct in all UNM-related contexts.

13. The application deadline is June 19th 2026 23:59 CET. Works submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

For the application

Each work should be represented by two separate files:
- Sheet music or another graphical presentation of the work.
- Recording of the work.  For traditionally notated music without a live recording, include an audio file (mock-up) from notation software (preferably using, for example, NotePerformer) or a DAW such as Logic or Cubase. Use compressed formats such as .MP3 or .MP4. Formats such as .WAV, .AIFF, .FLAC, and .MOV are not accepted.

PLEASE NOTE: The names of the files should ONLY be the TITLE of the work. Make sure the files are completely anonymised (see point 4 in terms and conditions).

If you have any questions regarding the application process or UNM, please do not hesitate to contact unm.sweden@ungnordiskmusik.com or any of the individual board members for more information.

Call for Sounds: Soundcinema Düsseldorf 2026

Soundcinema Düsseldorf is a recorded sound festival for experimental, electronic and electroacoustic
music that will take place on 28.10.2026 at FFT Düsseldorf. On the day of the event, a selection of
ten audio productions, which have been carefully picked by a selection panel in advance, will be
presented (as pre-recorded works) in an acousmatic listening situation. At the end of the evening, two
jury awards and one audience award will be awarded, each endowed with 750€. Additionally, each of
the ten selected works will receive a fee of 100€ (gross).
It is possible to submit stereo and multi-channel productions up to a maximum of 7.1 (please note the
channel configuration below). We are looking for musical compositions, soundscapes, sound collages,
sonic experiments, narrative audio formats and technoid productions that are characterized by a
transgressive impetus and attempt to undermine conventional listening experiences. Contributions can
be submitted either for the free category or for this year’s thematic focus Acceleration.
Free Category
For the free category, musical compositions, soundscapes, sound collages, sonic experiments and
narrative audio formats can be submitted as well as recordings that deal with the limits of sound and
hearing itself and/or that acoustically explore the resonance relationship between sound, body and
space.
Thematic Focus 2026: Acceleration
Under the thematic focus Acceleration, compositions are sought that engage with sonic, structural,
and temporal processes of acceleration in music—for instance, through changes in density, energy,
rhythm and information flow. Acceleration may manifest in microscopic temporal shifts, in the
superimposition of layers, in the accumulation of energetic states, or in the dissolution of form.
Cultural and societal phenomena of acceleration may likewise serve as points of departure and be
reflected through sonic practice.
Submissions are invited that investigate acceleration not merely as a technical parameter, but as an
aesthetic and form-generating force: as a tension between precision and instability, as movement
within the material itself, and as an acoustic experience of time.
Application and submission criteria
– All submitted productions must not exceed a length of 10 minutes.
– All contributions must be accompanied by a concept paper of one DIN A4 page (approx. 300
words). The concept paper consists of a short project description, which should contain a
conceptual reflection of the production. Submissions for the thematic focus should justify their
classification accordingly. In addition, the submission of a short CV (one paragraph) is
requested.
– A maximum of two pieces per category can be submitted.
– The submission of already published pieces is permitted, provided they were not released
before the year 2021. However, in the selection process, preference will be given to
productions created in 2025/2026 and/or those that have not yet been published.
– Stereo and multi-channel productions up to max. 7.1 can be submitted.
– Multi-channel productions must be produced according to the standard below. Please do
not send in surround bounces, but individual tracks and assign numbers to the files of the
individual tracks (1L, 2R, 3C, 4LFE, 5SSL etc...).
– Submissions can be uploaded until 31.07.2026 to:
https://soundcinema.fromsmash.com/request/PJDv.CuVtF-dd
If you experience issues uploading via the link we provided, please first try opening the link in a
different browser. If the upload still doesn’t work, please create your own download link (e.g. via
WeTransfer, Google Drive, etc.) and send it to info@soundcinema.eu.
– Please indicate in the file or folder name which category the submission is intended for and
whether it is a stereo or multi-channel recording.
Technical Specifications:
– Sample rate: 44.1 kHz - 48 kHz
– Resolution: at least 16bit
– Loudness: ≈ -23 LUFS (integrated) at -1 dBTP
– Highest frequency of the LFE channel: 300Hz

MENT Ljubljana is inviting artists, bands, solo performers, live acts and DJs with live experience and publicly accessible audio and video material to perform at its 13th edition.
MENT 2026 AFTERMOVIE

“MENT remains a rarity: a showcase festival curated so that whichever path you choose, every discovery feels like a win.” Antonio Poscic, The Wire
“Doesn’t feel like a typical showcase festival. It just feels like a real music lovers' festival. I think that’s the main thing with MENT. It’s about creating a healthy ecosystem with like minded people.” Bob Van Heur, Le Guess Who?

"There are festivals you attend, and there are those you organize your life around. MENT Ljubljana has belonged to the latter category for me for years."

Marija Todorović, Oblakoder

"MENT isn’t just a festival, it’s infrastructure for the future of independent culture."

Darek Mazzone, KEXP

MENT Ljubljana is a music discovery festival facilitating, in symbiosis with the conference, the presentation of music performers from all over Europe and beyond in front of international music professionals and audiences. The festival serves as a meeting point for artists, music professionals and music lovers.

IMPORTANT NOTES

We value thoughtful applications over sheer volume. Take a moment to explore MENT’s past and current programme, and ask yourself if your music resonates with the festival’s identity and audience.

We offer all performing artists a fee (based on a range of factors), as well as accommodation for foreign artists, basic backline, and festival catering.

The following questions help us get a clearer picture of your project and whether it fits MENT #13. Thanks for taking the time.
