How we work to make Kulturella usable for everyone

Les dette på norsk

Kulturella should work for everyone – with a mouse, keyboard, screen reader, magnification and on mobile. This page explains what we have done, what we know is not good enough yet, and how to tell us.

Our goal

We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA. This also covers the requirements in the Norwegian regulation on universal design of ICT solutions.

How we test

  • Every night an automated check (axe-core) runs on about 25 pages, both logged in and logged out. New issues are reported to us the next morning.
  • New features are tested with a keyboard before launch.
  • The site has a visible focus indicator and respects the reduced motion setting.

Last review: 16 October 2026. The automated check found no issues on the ten most used pages, after we fixed, among other things, the menu, icon links and some colour contrasts. Automated tests find roughly half of all possible issues, and we have not yet tested systematically with screen readers.

What we know is not good enough yet

  • Content from other providers, such as the chat assistant ELLA, maps, payment (Stripe and Vipps) and embedded videos, may have issues we do not fully control.
  • Documents and images uploaded by members, for example PDFs and images without alt text.
  • In the app, pinch-to-zoom is turned off. Use magnification and text size in your phone’s accessibility settings instead. In the browser you can zoom as usual.
  • Older pages and archives may have issues we have not found yet.

Tell us if something does not work

Write to us at post@kulturella.no, or ask ELLA and press “Support”. Please tell us which page it is and what you were using (for example a screen reader or keyboard). We will reply as soon as we can.

If you do not get an answer, or are not satisfied with it, you can contact the Norwegian Authority for Universal Design of ICT.
