Buinho is a creative hub in the small town of Messejana in Alentejo, southern Portugal. The site offers work placements for artists, writers, researchers, designers and curators from all countries and ages. You get access to your own or shared studios, a fablab (workshop with 3D printers, laser cutter and CNC mill), a textile workshop and a workshop for metalwork and plastic recycling.

The stay lasts a minimum of two weeks and a maximum of two months, and can start on the 1st or 15th of each month through 2027. You live in one of several houses in the city, with its own bedroom and access to the shared kitchen and workroom. The residence has no public or private funding, so all costs for houses and operation are covered by the artists themselves through a monthly fee.

You apply by sending a short CV, portfolio and project description by email. Authors, researchers and curators can send text excerpts instead of portfolio. A specialist committee assesses the applications according to artistic quality, the relevance of the project and the applicant’s motivation. After admission, you will need to pay a deposit of 50 percent of the total accommodation cost.
