La Wayaka Current invites artists, researchers and interdisciplinary practitioners to a site-based residency in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile, near San Pedro de Atacama. The residency combines independent creative work with guided field visits, sessions with local collaborators and shared reflective practice linked to ecology, landscape and cultural knowledge systems.

Participants stay in simple, shared accommodation in a rural environment, with access to shared kitchen, outdoor space and outdoor workspaces. The program emphasizes balance between scheduled group activities (approx. 50%) and individual, self-directed work, as well as fixed periods for sharing work-in-progress within the group.

The program is financed through a participation fee that covers actual costs of operating the program in a remote desert environment, including accommodation, local transport, shared resources and compensation to local collaborators. The organization offers partial or full financial aid as well as reduced prices and fully funded places for Latin American and BIPOC artists. Application is via an online form with no application fee.
