What is Vangen?

Vangen is an event and festival app built into Kulturella. You set up the programme, practical information, tickets, crew and stalls in one panel, and the audience gets everything in one place on their phone. The app works on iPhone, Android and PC, and the menus are available in Norwegian and English.

Because the app lives on the web, you do not have to publish anything in an app store or wait for approval. When you change the programme, the audience sees the change the next time they open the app. The link can go in the order confirmation, on posters and on your website.

Map and directions

The address is shown on a map with directions, together with practical information about opening hours, cloakroom and parking.

News with push notifications

Send “Doors open at 5 pm” straight to the lock screen, or schedule the message in advance. Some messages can go to the crew only.

QR tickets

Tickets are fetched from the ticketing system you use, or from a file, and end up in the app with a QR code. The buyer can share the tickets one by one.

Crew scanning – even offline

The crew scans tickets with the phone camera. The ticket list is downloaded in advance, so check-in carries on if the network drops.

Lost and found

The crew registers found items with a photo, and the audience can see what has been found and where to collect it.

Stalls and kiosk sales

The audience pre-orders food, drinks and merch and collects with a code. Each stall has its own page for orders and products.

Temporary crew

Volunteers get access only on the dates you choose, without taking up seats in your membership.

Recurring seasons

Do you run the event every year? Start a new season: the programme and tickets are cleared, while the app, the address and the notification subscribers carry over.

How to get started

  1. Create your organisation on Kulturella and choose a membership.
  2. Connect your community to the organisation, and open the “Vangen” tab there.
  3. Give the app a name, icon and colours, add the programme and publish when you are ready. Until then, only you can see the app.

Vipps sales in the sales report

Kulturella is registered as an accounting partner with Vipps MobilePay. Stalls can give us read access to their sales figures in the Vipps business portal, so Vangen can bring the Vipps sales into the sales report.

For the audience

The audience opens the link from the ticket, the website or a QR code on a poster. If they add the app to the home screen, it gets the event’s name and icon and can send notifications. The ticket with the QR code is stored on the phone and can be shown offline.

Questions and answers

Does the audience have to download anything from the App Store or Google Play?

No. Vangen opens in the browser. The audience can add it to the home screen, where it gets the event’s name and icon and behaves like a regular app.

Do push notifications work on iPhone?

Yes, once the app has been added to the home screen. That is Apple’s rule for web apps, and it applies from iOS 16.4. On Android, notifications also work straight from the browser.

What does Vangen cost?

Vangen is included in the organisation membership on Kulturella. Clubs and associations pay from NOK 75 per month (NOK 900 billed yearly), public bodies from NOK 167 per month (NOK 1,999 billed yearly) and businesses from NOK 199 per month (billed monthly). Temporary crew for the event days is an event add-on of NOK 1,500 per event. If your organisation starts a paid membership before 1 April 2027, the event add-on is free until 30 September 2027 – the whole festival season. The offer applies to paid memberships, not free trials.

Can we keep our current ticketing system?

Vangen fetches the tickets from the ticketing system you already use – directly from TicketCo, Checkin, Eventbrite, DICE, Billetto, Ticketbutler, WordPress (Event Tickets), Stripe and Shopify, or as a file from Tikkio, Hoopla, Resident Advisor, WooCommerce (FooEvents), Ticketmaster and others. Vangen does not sell tickets itself.

Can the app be in English?

Yes. Menus and buttons are available in Norwegian and English, and the audience switches language with one button. The programme and news are shown as you write them.

Who can see information about the audience?

Only the organiser and crew with access. From the ticket purchase we do not store the email address, only a checksum of it. Stall orders are deleted 30 days after the event.

Can we talk to someone first?

Yes. Book a short call with Lars, or write to lars@kulturella.no.
